What is the right way to safely burn potpourri?

Agreed - if you burn it and cause smoke to form you're going to be breathing in all kinds of carcinogenic chemicals and nasty things - warm it, gently, to increase the scent and you should be good to go.

Remember - it's not cool to huff potpourri ;)

You don't burn it you gently heat it.
