No, it isn't an NYC wanna be. What characteristics make you think it is like NYC? It can't be the transportation system, as houston's sucks. It can't be the suburban sprawl which is unbelievable in Houston. It can't be the theatre scene which is non-existant in Houston. People donot talk like NYers. People are much nicer and more curteous in Houston.

Houston and NYC are two different styles. NY is much more cultural with many more options available whether it is nightlife, daytime outing events, restaurants, and overall people watching. Houston is beautiful as well. Houston does not have that many options but they are slowly on the rise and are beginning to offer the very ritzy and glamourous lifestyle that was once indigenous to NYC. Houston is a great place to live and the cost of living and real estate is idea and definately more affordable. You get more than what you bargain for reason why many millionaires probably do reside in Houston. The nightlife and restaurant scene of Houston is not boring, however there is not enough either. The thing about Houston I would say is where NY may have 1,000 great places to eat out of of 10,000 restaurants, Houston will have 200 great places to eat out of 300. Everything is done above average and honestly some things are much better there in Texas. I have lived in NY and in Houston and if you asked which one is better I couldnt' answer it. Houston is a great place to reside, raise a family, not be bombarded and overwhelmed with fast living, and is definately an up and coming city. NY is great too hands down and if you've ever been then there would be no need for me to explain. Definately give Houston a shot. You won't regret in my opinion. However they are as different as night and day.

aj, be serious! Houston and NYC are as different as night and day. Houston's hospitality is tenfold better than NYC. The people are down to earth whearas NYC folks could care less about you if you were stranded on the street. Houston is one terrific city!

Sure we are..except we have warmer weather, better jobs, cheaper living, cheaper gas, nicer people, and are much closer to great travel destinations like Mexico, the Caribbean, real skiing, Las Vegas, California....etc.

Oh and we have trees here. I lived in NY for two years and it seems to me that NYC is a London wannabe...and they have a long way to go.
