I read on another web page that this happened to someone with a HP laptop. They said to hit the function and T key at the same time, but I don't know which function key. I tried them all, but nothing changed

I hope I'm wrong, But if the bars that you are talking about are on both sides, that means that the circutry that explands the horizontal are defective... if it is a desktop, try a different monitor, probably you'll find out that the problem goes away, which only means that is time for an upgrade... if it is on a laptop... is even worse... you'd have to find someone to repair it... but like I said, hopefully I'm wrong...

right click the desktop, choose properties, then settings.... make sure your resolution (screen size) is correct.. you may also find some settings in there specific to your graphics adapter, often these include re-sizing tools
