Someone is selling the idea of increased odds to win the uk lottery ,he says:

main , stars , odds
5 ,,,,,,,,,, 2 ,,,,,,,,,1 in 76,275,360
5 ,,,,,,,,,,, 1,,,,,,,,,,1 in 5,448,240
5 ,,,,,,,,,,,,0,,,,,,,,,,1 in 3,632,160
4 ,,,,,,,,,,,,2,,,,,,,,,,1 in 339,002

Claiming that this shows that getting the star numbers right improves the odds more than getting the other numbers right.
Is this true, or is this a con (as well as a fools deal !)

If they are asking for money for full details then it is a con. Otherwise it is just another hairbrained theory.

The odds for every draw remain approx 14 miilion to 1 for each line you purchase.

it is very easy to baffle people with numbers, particularly when dealing with probabilities because what frequently seems common sense is actually wrong.

For example how many people do you need at a gathering to have a 50/50 chance that two of them will share the same birthday. Common sense would state to many that you would need about 183. However you only actually need 23.

If someone is quoting odds at you and asking for money then leave quickly.

The stats look like they are from the euro millions lottery, but I have not done any calculations to verify this. The only way to increase your chances of winning is to buy more tickets, but considering the wide ranging odds, you are more likely to get hit by a bolt of lightning. The person selling the idea of increasing the odds of you winning, is trying to make money out of you. If the system did exist then the whole lottery system would collapse

Probably-there are two different pools of numbers for "main" and "stars." Playing, the information would have no bearing on your overall odds, from that one piece of information.

Assuming the draw is completely random, and as far as I can see it is as near to it as you can get, then EVERY combination of six numbers has equal chance of being drawn. The only way you can improve your chance of winning is to buy more tickets.

To put it in perspective, if 1,2,3,4,5,6 was drawn one week, then there is exactly the same chance that it will be drawn again the next week.

It's a con, lol. (To prove it would take too much time and space here and one would have to know the number of numbers in the main and star sequences).
