My school posts surveillance cameras at all entryways to protect against intruders.

You say one word and we are supposed to know what you want? ok.. I will take a wild guess..
surveillance is what an investigator does to discover information.. he/she uses listening devices, hidden cameras.. etc. He/she can also simply sit back and watch. That is surveillance.
