Yes, because "out of the box" it doesn't contain antispyware. If you want to stick with Microsoft products, download Windows Defender beta.

Yes and no.... sensible surfing habits can eliminate most risk from spyware, if youre using XP dont run as admin on a day to day basis, controlling cookies, all the usual advice about not opening dodgy looking mail etc.....

BUT.... it's definately worth having a copy of an anti-spyware prog handy, or use on of the many excellent on-line offerings such as webroot spysweeper or symantecs.
If nothing else it means you dont (as is becoming more prevalent) need to run anti-this, anti-that software all the time.... I've run across systems with so much superfluous 'security' software running concurrently that they become unusable.

yes it is! Microsoft updates deals only with system stability. they are currently developing a software called windows defender witch is in beta 2 you can download it from www.microsoft.com, but I recommend Ad-Aware for getting rid of spy-ware

Yeah, always have something.

I just keep Adaware and Spybot on hand..just in case.
