HORRIBLE!They only got thier one goal because it was an own goal.England was easily favored to win and in my opinion they tied, that match was more of a simple warm-up and england played like losers.

Hi..I have just been reading some of the answers to your question, and the answers seem to be naive and from people who do not know much about the history of football.....England played great..they played better in the first half....This is the first world cup in a long while that they are truly playing as a team..peoples expectations of first matches are always overated as high..it is only the first round..and I believe England will preform beautifully..."Go on England"

Personally, I thought the last 87 minutes was a waste of time. The goal England won on wasn't even scored by a England player, but I'm not going to complain about it.

Terribly, I thought.
After the German 4-2 victory over Costa Rica, we had thought that we would see more goals in the game. The game was slow-moving (I would even describe it as sloppy, just like the Serbian&Montenegro and Netherlands game). England could have put in more effort! Definitely!

They should have been going all out (like the Iran - Mexico game just now), where everyone's covering everyone else and it was fast-moving and and exciting. It also looked tiring, players sprinting everywhere!

I hope that the next match against Trinidad would be more exciting and better played.

Monkey face really doesn't make sense - technically they DID win, as the score was 1-0, regardless of who scored the goal.
They were playing in temperatures of around 30c. No chance I could do that for 90 minutes. Having said that, I have seen much better England games...

They were not as good as they should have been but that doesn't mean they'll play bad for the rest of the tournament. All teams have bad days and it's better to have yours early on, especially if you still get the three points.
The real cause for concern are the yellow cards recieved by our players.

To the person who said "They won didn't they".
Technically they didn't. It only really counts if someone in the winning team actually scored the goal.
Having said that, i don't think they played their best or theri worst. Maybei the heat sapped their energy.
They will not win - with or without Rooney. I think micheal Owen is a better player anyway.

They didn't play great, but they won, which is all that matters in the end.

Had they been playing another team that could have taken advantage of it, they'd have lost. Paraguay was as dreadful.
