To everyone who values DIAMONDS as the gift of choice for women. Would you still accept DIAMONDS if you learned that 80% of the world's diamonds come from Africa? Do you know how they get them? They're located deep below the ground and are mined by children(no older than 10) who belong to poor families who can't afford basic neccessities like food and water. Those children make no more than a shiny penny PER DAY! The men that the children work for sell those diamonds to companies that then go and sell them to companies like De BEERS or the other ones that can afford expensive TV ads to play during primetime. Some of those children don't have families and become slaves to the diamond smugglers. After knowing this, are there any women here who would still accept diamonds as gifts? Think about it. 90% of the world's diamonds come for Africa and they are extracted using the method I just outlined above. And don't try to rationalize by saying that YOUR diamonds are of the 10%.

Diamonds are a great myth played on materialistic women's minds but hey it worked, right? Most women value a diamond because they're supposed to be rare and expensive. So, in turn they think the more their man loves them, the bigger, and more expensive the diamond their man'll get them.

In fact, diamonds are NOT rare. There's TONS of diamonds to go around. The reason they're so expensive is because of their demand. We (women) need to educate ourselves about the world around us and quit being so greedy. We should be giving some of that extra money our husbands, fiance's have to help other people. Considering that most Americans are in debt, I also recommend you SAVE some of that money instead of putting it on your card!

My husband and I have plain bands...no need for a gaudy ring anyway. Our love is expressed in other, less materialistic ways. The best part is, most of that money we save goes into our investment, savings and trust funds for our kids...now, isn't that a better way of spending money?

I actually don't really want a real diamond - I'd probably lose it. I'd much rather have a simulation from a home shopping channel.

Diamonds are a cliché. True love isn't measured in diamonds.

I'd be happy with love alone... who needs all that pompousness, fluff..... okay, probably women know better!
