My friend’s mom is very, very mean to her. My friend is over weight and very self-conscious, but her mom still feels the need to call her rude names. Her mom tells her she can't stand her, calls her a fat a** and tells her she wished she lived with her father. My friend actually tried to commit suicide once when she was younger (she's 13 now) and all her mom did was act a little sad for a few days and then go back to her usual self. Her mom tries to blame it on her, telling her she acts like a little b**** all the time, which is a complete lie. My friend isn't the perfect kid, but she truly doesn't deserve this. My friend is always crying and is constantly depressed and she told me she just feels like she can't take it anymore. Her mom is actually really nice sometimes, but a lot of the time she's like this. I've tried to talk to my friend and let her spend as much time at my house as possible, but nothing seems to work. Is there anything at all I can do to help her?

Its kind of sad. Especially when is from the mother. I think that her mother is the one that really needs counseling. Your friends can also go to a counselor. then from there they get the mom to get some help to. You friend is probably better of with her dad. for a while. been with her mom is making her sick. How does the mother expect the daughter to change when she has to put up with all the verbal abuse from her own mother. Maybe you friend needs to really tell her mom exacly how she feels even if her mom starts to nag and not listen. your friend can give up. i feel bad for her.

But for you keep been a good friend. She really needs someone there for some good support.

oh that is so sad but no matter how bad it gets you should try to still be her friend and if she gets to feeling to down in the dumps then she should tell her dad or you should tell your mom and see if she can contact some people that could help her get through what her mom says to her but really if she wanted to she could go live with her dad. I hope everything works out between her and her mom.

In a situation like this all you can really do is stay be her side and be there for her. To help your friend why don't you help her gain confidence and self-esteem. Compliment her on something good about her, her accomplishments, get her to join some clubs/sports with you, help her find what she's good at. I hope your friends situation gets better as soon as possible.

Are your parents aware of the situation? I think that this situation should really be taken care of by an adult. I know that it's no fun to get involved in other people's problems, but it sounds like maybe your parents could intervene on her behalf. I'm so sorry that this is happening to your friend. Just keep being the good friend that you already are to her!

Verbal abuse is just as bad as physical abuse she needs to get away from there before she seriously hurts herself if possible she could move in with her father or you could call your local child welfare service and see what her options are since she's a minor she cant legally move out till she's 17
