midland slider, depending on the state...you may want to let it free otherwise u could get into trouble for keeping it

It's probably a painted turtle. They have one of the largest ranges in North America.

if the red marks are where the ears would be, it's a red earred slider. they make great pets if you know how to take care of them. they are aquatic turtles.

sounds like either a painted or a red ear slider and neither one is poisonous otherwise id be dead, been bit by both

it's a red eared slider, and they are NON POISONOUS! matterafact, i dont know of any turtle that is poisonous....In your area there should be a reptile shop, take your newfound friend there, they can tell you what it eats and the best way to house him/her.....good luck
