I went to Kos with my family and it was such a peaceful holiday. We stayed in Kefalos. There is only the one main street, (very long) The restaurants were fine and the beach was great. I can honestly say there was enough to do but so relaxing. Plenty of shops and trips to Kos town, Greek themed nights, boat trips etc. Can't wait to go again.

Hi I would recommend Spetes or Hydra there are 2 small islands very close to Athens mainland (about 45mins with a hydro from Pireaus Port) very family orientated.
Hydra in fact is an island without transport....only donkey..very quaint and unspoilt...you can take a boat taxi to several beaches...family run taverna's etc.
Spetes also a small unspoilt island....both are worth taking a look at.(Skopelos too) Have a great time. (Also some friendly tips, for several months before you go on holiday take garlic tablets they help the mosquitos to keep at bay. Also, keep the sugar intake low ie; fizzy drinks etc the mosquitos LOVE it....keep to beer! As a repellent spray by it here in Greece ...."Propoline"..excellent! Also if you get sunburnt try putting Greek Yoghurt or thin slices of raw potato on the area you are burnt..it really works.)

Try Thassos. It's not very heavily touristed so it won't have as much of the party crowd. It's green, or used to be, and large. It's not too far from the mainland in the North.
Or go to Halkidiki. Not an island, but has an island feel. It is the three fingers that jutt out into the Northern Aegean just east of Thessaloniki. Marmaras, on the second finger, is very popular and picturesque.

Cyprus is beautiful, paphos is quieter than most. Many of the hotels have private beaches, kids clubs and give you either easy access to the towns or an oasis type holiday if you'd prefer. I can honestly recommend the St George Hotel in Paphos (It was GMTV Wedding venue two years ago) it has pools two small private beaches, a beautiful seafront walkway and easy access to the harbour and shops.

The easy answer is, if you can get a flight there, it'll be ideal. The islands with airports are geared up for tourists of all ages, they are safer too because there are so many tourists. Talk to your travel agent about your flight options and then book over the internet for the cheaper deal. Obviously there are places to avoid but your travel agaent can advise you on that.
Have a nice holiday.

i recomend naxos. i ve been there, its full of families and many many kids because it has many locals (the biggest island in the cyclades). there are quiet cafes and restaurants, your kid will enjoy the company of other kids, beach is close to the central port and there are small villages to visit by bus too. oh! great ice creams and waffles too! no dark or lonely streets there! too many people for that! have a nice stay!

I know that many Greek Islands are known for partying (I would avoid those with a 12 yr old).
Crete(well all of Greece does but Crete especially) has lots of history and is not known for being a big party island.
