Or, at least, if the global monopoly was dissolved and they were adjusted to their true value of approximately $3 a carat?

No, but I don't want a diamond for other reasons. I am married and I had a diamond engagement ring. I was 19 and young and naive about conflict or blood diamonds. It was a beautiful ring, until I learned of the horrors people are subjected to for murders to make money off of stupid Americans. I don't know where my ring came from, was it conflict free or did I contribute to such inhumanity? After discussing with my husband, we decided to get rid of the ring...we sold it and donated the sale total into a global human rights charity. Now I have a lovely colored gem stone ring and I know for certain that no one died for the symbol of my marriage, love and commitment to my husband. Matter of fact it's even certified!

I don't want a diamond ring now, and I've certainly never ynderstood the fascination with owning a diamond anything, especially like diamond engagement rings especially when the diamond is so tiny you have to squint to see it. I mean, what's the point? There are many more beautiful gemstones of lesser cost which would make much nicer rings. Etc, etc, etc. Why pay $$$$ for a little chip of carbon?

I can't speak for all women......but I will say what I think to be true (or at least hope to be true).

Women do not want the diamond because of its monetary value, but because of its symbolic value. Most diamonds are given as gifts of undying love. A diamond is strong in substance and nature. It endures all as one hopes that love will endure all. Regardless of its monetary value........it would still maintain this "strength." If Papa told me he'd trade my non singing mockingbird for a diamond ring......yes I would still want it. Because it was given to be out of love....to show me it would last.......forever.

I don't want (or need) a diamond ring anyways, seeing as a ring with some gem in it isn't really of much use. Now, a brand new computer, that's a good gift I'll remember :)

Interesting question. I think I would always treasure my engagement ring because it's a gift from my husband that symbolizes his love for me and his wish to marry me. And diamonds are pretty and sparkly...so I guess the difference is that I'd probaby have more of them if they were cheap, lol.

Hell no! When a man gives u a diamond ring, its b/c you are worth somn and u are truely adored....so recieving somn that was $3 a carat would actually mean that you're worthless.

Heck, yeah! A diamond is still beautiful and long-lasting. It's still a symbol of our undying love. It's still super shiny. It's still the same ring he gave me the night he asked me to marry him, and I wouldn't trade it with anything else, no matter the value.

Diamonds have never turned me on,no matter what they symbolize.
I would rather take that money and put it towards a cool car. I would get more enjoyment out of that and more tickets too.....lol

sure, i could always cut stuff with it. which is the main use for most diamonds in the world. industrial diamonds, they're called. i believe the valuable ones are in the minority and the industrial ones are most prevelant.
