The Gateway PC is model #550, year, 2000. The Monitor is EV700, 17 inch.

I assume you mean a Gateway PC - virtually any monitor should work. Though if you wanted to be absolutely certain, you should have posted the model of the computer in the question.

Monitors all have one of two types of connections these days - and there are adapters for them, so any old monitor should suffice.

Depends on how old the gateway is. If it runs Windows 3.x, then look for a used vga monitor. If it runs past Windows 95, you can get any used monitor out there. Try ebay or newegg.com.

buying used u are buying some body elses head ache it would be better to buy new and any monitor (Computer monitor) will work with your gateway my neighbor has a gateway computer but uses a dell monitor it computer is confused not sure if it is coming or going LOL :)

Any monitor will work. You can buy a 19" CRT now in the range of $100. Buying a used one is not a good idea.

well hes right there are two different types of port for a monitor here this is the one that will go into your computer VGA its basically the one that should unless you upgraded your graphic card to a 256mb then you have two ports that are VGA and DVI....
DVI is better for more better performance its basically used with HDTV the VGA is gonna work for a old computer

go to gateway.com and click on shirch and type on monitors and they will show you want ones are compaitble with your fathers cumputer
