It was such a shame that George Best led the lifestyle that he had. I just wonder if he hadn`t been an alcoholic would he have hit the headlines as much?? I think not somehow.
But to answer your question he was an over rated alcoholic unfortunately.
Stupid man that he was. He didn`t appreciate the transplant that he was given. You don`t go out after a short time after been given a liver and drink yourself into oblivion. What a waste of a life.. I was only 59 (I think)
As for going to name the Belfast City Airport after him. I`d personally rather see a Stadium named in his memory if they are going to do anything.
I could say more on the topic but I won`t..I`d bore you stupid!
Sorry brainstew, but (the medical side) of this really rattles me.
Glad you raised it though!!

A football legend pure genius untill he couldn't play anymore and let himself slide down the wrong side of fame, and that is what fame can do to a person, He was one of the greatest footballers of his time such a shame that his habits overshadowed his talent R.I.P George

George Best was the best footballer I ever saw, but once he finished playing he rejoined the masses and became another boorish drunk. To actually name an airport after this misfit was a joke...wasn't it? A Brewery or a Pub maybe...but not an airport.

On the pitch he was a bit of both. However, at the end of his life he was just a sad drunk with nothing to live for but the bottle.

used to be the former, in time became the latter. also he bred media hypocrisy, who slagged him off when he was cheating on his wife etc, yet when he was dying, and after his death hailed him as a saint! how do people suddenly become better/nicer posthumously?!
