I have been on fairly strong anti depressants for a few months and am finding it increasingly difficult to climax. I knew this was a rare side affect in both men and women but thought it was supposed to wear off after you get used to the drug. Despite my very active sex life i am finding myself increasingly frustrated and am worried it may be the sign of other problems. Has anyone else ever had a similar problem and thus advice or solutions????

I am on paroxetine and have been advised to stay on them, despite my hesitations, for at least 9 months which will bring me up to September.

It is not rare - it is a common side effect. But it actually matters what kind of antidepressant you are on. If it is welbutrin, the side effects are common, but less severe. the other more common ones - the side effect is common. Ask your doctor to try another kind, maybe welbutrin (if that isn't the one you are on) or perhaps another type of anti- depressant. Good luck. And yes, been there. Couldn't have an orgasm to save my life. I'm not on them now, so all is fine. but I know what you are going through.

I don't think you're problem is climaxing, I think it's the anti depessants.

I'm not a doctor but I don't think you should still be on them after a few months. Maybe you should explore alternatives to the drugs you are taking. My guess is that if you can come off the drugs and find another way to deal with your depression you'll have no more problems climaxing.

I've been on anit-depressants for 12 months now and was warned that this might be one of the side effects. If you're happy with the pills, this might be just one of those things you have to put up with. Otherwise, go back to your doctor and ask him/her to change your medication and mention the reasons. They might be able to offer you ones with fewer side effects in this department.

That's good enough reason to get them changed dudette, which ones are you on? Some of the proper old-school drugs like prothiaden are quite heavy duty side effects-wise.
