It is also called a studio apartment. It has 1 big room that is a bedroom/living room in one, a small kitchen and a bathroom. That's why it is called efficient--not a lot of rooms to clean:)
A lot of these efficient apartments are not exactly cheap, on average they cost around the same like a 1 bedroom apartment which has a bedroom, a living room,(a lot of them also have a dining area), a bathroom, and a kitchen. So compare prices before you buy or rent one.
