Well, it's going to depend on how much rubbing you did. Rubbing compound is used to remove paint and smooth out surface improfections. If you were to aggresive on the use of the rubbing compound you might have rubbed through the top layer of clear coat. (That is what makes todays paint shiny.) If that happened, no amount of wax will make it look better. You will have to have the spot sanded and then resprayed with clear coat.

Switch to polishing compound, then a good wax.

take the compound over a larger area
then buff and polish
wax will help then
