I think they have some chances of making it to the finals, I don't believe they will though.
From what I've seen so far there seems to be a lot of complacence around the team, they are playing well at times but then just start daydreaming and concede goals. Good build-up play but fragile when really put under pressure, in the dying minutes of the game.
It is interesting that England have a pattern of getting to a flying start and then fading away (numerous examples, including match against Portugal at Euro 2000, against Romania, against France in 2004 etc etc). They don't have that killer instincy that others have, to just kill off a game.
So I believe there's a problem in the players' mentality, because, let's admit it, England have one of the best teams of the tournament. Only Robinson looks a bit shaky, but except him, they're extremely solid. The coach is a bit of a problem too as he seems to be in for the money and not for performance. Sorry to all Sven-fans but to me this is a fact.
So, no I don't think they'll even get to the final.

England stand a slim chance if they get their act together and have a bit of luck. All but too often they play well and then in the second half fall on the defensive and by the skin of their teeth
just scrape through against the lower teams .When they play
Argentina or Brazil they will not be so lucky unless they are on top form which so far we have not seen for 90 mins.

Can I remind everyone, when once the last time England won their first game in the world cup, at least they won this one and England always get better as the world cup progresses (untill we get knocked out by penalty's though lol) I think they have as good a chance of any of the teams playing its all down to how they play on the day. watch this space England will get better and go all the way ENGER-LAND yeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaa

I heard a joke today .... "what do you call eleven millionaires watching the world cup final? ..... The England Football Squad!"
Seriously though, England never pay with any passion ... it's not in their blood unlike the South Americans or Italians. I think England will fall on the quarter finals .... Rooney or no Rooney.
BUT I do so hope that I am wrong!!!

Very doubtful that England will win...but we can live in hope cant we!! It would be great if we did win though, its been 40 years since we won....i only know that as my parents got married on 30 July 1966 and my dads always joked that he got the raw end of the deal....he should have gone to watch the match!!!
Good Luck 2 England, they are only human, so their best will be good enough and if its not good enough theres bugger all we can do about it!!

They have a very slim chance of winning the world cup but I wouldn't be surprised if they got to the finals

no way, coz of all the teams ive seen play so far, england is probobly 1 of the weakest. The best team ive seen played good so far is Germany, argintina, mexico, portugal &ecuador.
Even Iran lost against mexico, i think they played better than England. I Think portugal, ggermany or mexico is going 2 win the world cup, not BRAZIL coz they win 2 much already.

They've got the pedigree.
And at first glance, you would think they do have a chance ~ but on close examination NO NO NO. They stand no chance at all.
For them to win they will have to get past; Holland, Brazil and finally meet Germany ~ who happen to be gaining momentum as the competition progresses.

They can if they play to Michael Owens strengths by keeping the ball on the floor. The only person who's benefitting from the current system is Peter Crouch and he misses too many chances. Owen has and will prove that he is a natural goalscorer.
