There are two basic reasons.
1) It's linked directly from Yahoo! so every random person on the internet can find it easily. There have been sites similar to this which functioned very well and attracted intelligent people. These were spread by word of mouth so most of the people were generally on the same level. Here, anyone (including every airhead in the world) knows about the site.
2) The ratings system. People are way too into having a good score and will answer every question just to get more "points" even if they don't have any relevant information. This is obviously a flaw. People should only be rewarded for posting good answers not just any answer.

I believe that it is because people are more apt to respond to easier questions in anger. Correcting morons is easy to do with passion, and it boosts self-esteem. Stupid questions frustrate people, but they also make people feel better about themselves (in an awful sort of way), encouraging the responder to think "Well, I'm smarter than that! I would never ask such a stupid question! Ha! Let me respond to them and show them how intelligent I am!"

Basically it's an ego thing.

For the most part, but I choose to believe that a lot of the people on her are just young kids screwing around, you can help the ignorance of youth, you just have to put up with it. I wish more intelligent people came on here though, so I could have some of my questions get real answers.

becuz this is for fun not stress. when i first became a member i hated stupid questions and answers. now that they have been diminished... i miss them, becuz it gets tedious at times researching people's questions. some require indepth knowledge and takes the fun away. I don't mind them some times but I really need fun silly ones when i am bored out my skull. It does not mean that we are dumb, just not in the mood. Stop taking life so serious. I tell snswerers wheni don't want their stupid answers and when i want it i say things like 'amuse me' or ' i'm bored'. I take what i get most times, like any game.

Good question!!! My thing is everytime I actually find one worth answering the computer locks up or Yahoo Answers is "out of Ink" What is up with that? I usually sign on when bored ,and sign off even more depressed. Go figure....It is kinda like waiting for the phone to ring and when it does its a bill collector.

Because people want to "dump" on the moronic questioner, and don't know how to answer intelligent ones.

It just goes to show the mentality of most of the people on here, I have the same problem, can't really get a good answer, Yahoo ought to just remove the whole answer and question site.

People think that it makes them cool to put in lame answers. Many feel that the more moronic their answers are, the cooler they really are.

because people are so used to putting stupid answers on the stupid questions and they dont feel like doing the work and figuring out the answer on the intelligent questions because they are also probly too lazy to try and think about it and figure it out.
