I'm in my mid 30's and when I was in elementary they did use cp. I remember when they took the "bad" kids out in the hallway, we had to stay in our desks and you heard him/ her getting swatted. It was usually done by the prinicpal and witnessed by the teacher. This was back in the day when getting sent to the office was a BAD thing.

At home, we got the wooden yard stick across the back of the bare thighs.

Yes, kids were lot better behaved back then!!! Now, you can't even look at your kids cross-eyed without division of family services slapping you with a court order. Swatting isn't against the law, but if your child feels threatened, then you're in trouble. It's all about their "feelings".

Okay, I could keep ranting, but you get the point... I totally agree with you!!!

I was. My dad hit me with his belt. Boy did that hurt! My mom would pick up whatever was handy -- stick, hairbrush, anything -- and hit us with it.
In Middle School and High School, they hit us with a stick.

I don't think kids were any better behaved then, except when there was a parent, teacher, authority-figure, or cop standing around with a stick ready to beat the **** out of them.

My dad used to smack me across the face with whatever he had in his hand when my mom read me my rights. But that ended when I turned 9 and started smartening up.
Never at school tho. Unless I grew up in the third world. Those kids are as disciplined as soldiers.

I was not and I behaved fine. My husband was and got into a lot of trouble as a kid. I will not beat my kids. They do have bad consequences for bad behavior and they have good consequences for good behavior. It is not fair to concentrate only on bad behavior. They are not perfect but they are learning to be responsible for their actions.

CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IS TORTUROUS ACTS UPON AN INNOCENT CHILD AND IS NOT THE REASON THEY WERE WELL BEHAVED..AS A MATTER OF FACT, THEY CAN BE FOUND IN PRISONS AND MENTAL HOSPITALS FROM THE ABUSE. GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT

Yes I did quite often.
You had respect for teachers and had a fear of them if you were naughty.

If my parents found out I would get the same again when I got home.

I was... and I was very well-behaved... out of fear. A peach switch can be pretty persuasive... especially when they add insult to injury by making you go out and cut it yourself.
