i was born and raised in ny for twenty years, joined the army so i could get out and experience more. sent me to washington state and i hate it! florida sounds like a good idea: close to ny, same time zone, hot, nice beaches, lots of latinos (like me), close to lots of latin american countries so i could visit, clubs, and theme parks. ive only been there once and it was only for a week when i was a teenager. on paper this seems like a really good plan. what are the pros and cons of this? any location in florida the doesnt get hit with hurricanes? wheres a good place to live? im thinking about around tampa or orlando.

Well if you like warm weather try the desert areas out west. That way you don't have to worry about hurricanes. Both Tampa and Orlando are good.

Ft.Lauderdale, Miami and West Palm Beach are good. These 3 cities have great airports that can get you anywhere you want to go and airfares that are very competitive. West Palm Beach or Ft. Lauderdale to NYC airfare can often be had for around $168 on Jetblue.

The ONE BIG NEGATIVE TO SOUTH FLORIDA IS INTERSTATE 95. It is the main artery running from the Northern Border of Florida and into the Keys. When you get into the south florida areas the traffic is heavy. Think LA freeway and you get the idea.

Housing is expensive. Look for rental shares.

Only move to Fla., if you enjoy the following- Ungodly heat and humidity, extremely low pay and extemely high cost housing, food, and general living expenses. Way too many grumpy, rude old people. and the worst drivers in the world!! Not to mention the fact that every highway, major roadway in the state is always under construction. I have lived half way between Tampa and Orlando for 15yrs. and that section of I-4 has been underconstruction the entire time! And as for hurricanes, the only safe place to live is not in fla!!! Now it is even hard to get home owners insurance to protect yourself. As for the beaches, all are over crowded and dirty, nothing like they used to be.
Take it from me it ain't all it's cracked up to be!!

Florida is close to NY? Are you high? It's like more than a thousand miles away.

Put it this way, I have been there and my ex-husband lives there and likes it. I live in Canada, if the opportunity arose, I think it would be an okay move.
