Make an appointment with your garage for the vehicles MOT. You are covered (MOT wise if you get stopped) then for that journey. The garage will do the MOT no problem for you. Just don't be tempted to drive it between now and then. You know what life's like.

RE:
I just realised my MOT ran out last month. What do I do?
I thought it finished in July but it finished in May. What do I do? Can I still drive my car to a garage to get it done or will that be illegal? How do I put this right - it was a genuine mistake. Will a garage agree to do the MOT if it has gone over?

If you want accurate info then look up the DVLA website. They will tell you. But basically there are ONLY 2 exemptions to driving without a valid MOT certificate. 1 - Driving to a pre-booked appointment, and 2 - driving to a place of repair following a failed test. Incidentally the place of repair doesn't have to be a garage, you can drive it home and repair it your self.
But do bear in mind if you drive at any other time your insurance will not be valid. Insurance companies require that the vehicle is legally allowed on the road to provide cover.

You are allowed to drive your car to a garage for an MOT test. If it fails, you are allowed to take it to another garage for repairs and back to a garage for a retest. A garage will quite happily MOT test a car that is out of date and will not turn you in!

Book the new MOT soon, if the car is damaged prior to the new test, your insurer will still pay up but will value the vehicle much lower, sometimes 25 to 50% lower!

What on God's green earth is a "car tax", an "MOT", or the DVLA" ?? I've been driving for a long time now and never heard of these terms. Is this some Canadian stuff?

the garage will mot it but it IS technically illegal to drive. so you either have to get a tow truck or hope you dont get caught.
