This is any old remedy that I used on my daughter. you may not feel comfortable doing it but, I was at my wits end. I gave her a little catnip tea before bed. I gave her about an once. It worked for me you can usually find it at health food stores. I wouldn't give the baby and more than ounce. I don't know the age of you child. I would also check with your pediatrician

What always worked for me and still does when I hold a baby is a little pressure on their abdomen. I make sure to be very calm and reassuring when I hold them and then put the baby's abdomen on my shoulder, so if their is cramping from gas, this will help it to escape. I also lay the baby across my my leg(upper thigh) on it's stomach and gently rub his or her back. I also make sure the baby is well burped. No matter how loud the baby is crying, I always try to stay very calm and speak softly into it's ear. The more tense the baby, the harder it is to alleviate gas. The baby has a tendency to stiffen the abdomen muscles when it is in pain and this just makes the pain worse. If this is a constant problem, there are medications to make the problem a bit better. Your pediatrician can make the judgment call on this. Don't give the baby anything by mouth such as sugar, peppermint or a finger dipped in alcohol. All these can harm your baby and they are old wives tales in my opinion. This is a difficult time, but it will pass. If your baby doesn't get over this, you may need to contact your physician. I hope this helps.

Here are some things that helped for us - swaddling, white noise (ie a fan, tv fuzz, or saying"shhhh" in her ear over and over), Putting her in a chest carrier and walking her around, taking her outside, swinging her in an outdoor swing, holding her and letting her watch baby einstein videos to distract her, putting her on her stomach on my lap and patting her back and moving my knees gently back and forth, massaging her tummy with her legs (moving her legs gently accross her tummy in a clockwise direction), holding her face down with her tummy on my forearm and her head in my hand with my elbow between her legs and rocking her back and forth that way, I hope some of these will help! THere was nothing that was a miracle cure for us, but we would do this in combination every night - when one thing stopped working, we'd move on to the next. And HANG IN THERE MOMMY!! This peaks at six weeks so it is all down hill from here - by 3 months, she was a DREAM. It gets better! Remember THIS TOO SHALL PASS!!!

Give the baby a Pacifier/Soother/Dummy (whatever you call it - it is the teat with no bottle). Encourage the baby to suck on it. This will ease the colic. If the baby refuses it, dip it first in a touch of sugar. Again refuses: if you are breast feeding, present some of your own milk on the teat. Baby will soon get the hang. HOWEVER, you will get rid of the colic, but may have a hell of a job getting rid of the teat in a year or so..............

With colicky babies different things work for each child. Some things that I have learned is wrapping them up nice and tight (swaddling them) and then carrying them with their belly on your arm gently bouncing them.
Also running the water sometimes soothes them. Just hearing the water running.
Sometimes massage helps.
Here are a couple sites that might help you too!
Good luck!

I really don't know all the ways you may use to sooth a colicky baby, but my nieces son was colicky and the only way I could calm him down was rub his back. I'm not saying it'll work on all babies, but it did him.

I had a daughter that was colic and to quite her down I stipped her down to a diaper and swaddeled her in a satin blanket(tightly) and put her in the swing. It took her a few min. befor she would stop crying. I think the softness of the satin blanket and the rythmic motion of the swing remindered her of the womb.

gas drops by Gerber and rub the baby's belly, also swaddling is soothing to them, if using formula and not breastfeeding try a gentle kind like good start by carnation or nutramigen by enfamil.
