Poverty. And the fact that the corrupt government has political struggles from within and uses the population as pawns. The electricity goes out every day, for hours at a time. I lived there for 10 months. It can get hot.

A friend of mine that was working there for some months told me that some relevant problems are: water contamination, no laws for workers (like insurance, retirement, etc,etc)for example.

It is a very poor country but if you visit a common tourist destination it wont seem too bad. Street venders are common and tend to be pushier then U.S venders
