I have developed pain in both shoulders, with pain when ever I raise or extend my arms.

There are several things that could be going on.
Tendinitis or your bursae sac could be torn which causes bursitis. Pluerisy could be a problem. Bursitis & pluerisy both hurt so bad that you think you are having a heart attack. And last but not least, you could have a broken collar bone. My niece broke hers and didn't even know it. She had no visible signs for a few days and then it hit. So be careful. I would go to a doctor.

Could be a rotator cuff problem from repetitive over use. Or it could be the on-set of arthritis.
Ice is good for inflammation that could be present. If pain continues I would definitely find a doctor to go to.
