I probably set it some time ago and now I don't know where to go back to reset it to work properly.

Go to control panel and look for the mouse folder. You can configure it there.

If its a rollerball mouse (the old kind) take the ball out, and with rubbing alcohol and some Q-tips, wipe the ball and the inside of the mouse where the ball was. If you have a laser mouse, wipe the laser off with a Q-tip.

well would need to know whats wrong with it first, u could check the mouse settings in the control pannel use the keyboard, and arrow/tab keys.
