The real Arthur (if he ever existed) was a British warlord who lived around the 5th-6th Century AD. He was believed to have helped united the British tribes to fight against the invading Angles and Saxons from Northern Europe. All historians can find out about him was that he was called Art or Artos (Celtic for bear). He kept the Saxons at bay throughout the early 6th century, after he wan a spectacular battle at a place called Mount Badon, which cannot be positively located. After his death the fractious Britains were no longer able to hold back the Saxons. The later stories about Arthur were fanciful weavings of medieval myths and stories of a long-forgotten hero. No such medieval king named Arthur existed, nor has there ever been a King Arthur in the history of Britain.

Sir Lancelot and Guinevere are the correct spellings and fact, I know someone who can trace his family back to King Arthur, but I know a few variants of the stories so some fiction may have got muddled with the facts :)

Some of the Roman historians mention (very briefly) a British king they called Arturius. As for the whole Lancelot-and-Guinevere, sword-and-sorcery thing, that's just a romance written centuries later by some dude called Mallory, using the Arthur story as his starting point.

It was so long ago that nobody knows anymore.. Some people say that King Arthur never really existed and then some say that it wasn't in the medieval ages. more like the Bronze age.
