Rey lost the mask in a Mask vs. Miss Elizabeth's Hair match at WCW SuperBrawl 9 with Konnan as his partner against "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.
Traditionally, when a Mexican luchadore (wrestler) loses his mask in a match where the loser must unmask, never to put the mask back on. However, WWE broke the tradition when they signed Rey and stated that they want him with the mask on.
One wrestler currently in the WWE who lost his mask in a match is Psicosis of the Mexicools.

I think the most likely choice is John Morrison because they seem to be building up for a Morrison vs CM Punk feud for after Night of Champions. You see Morrison asking Teddy Long to challenge the winner of CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy. With Edge gone and Jeff Hardy leaving WWE has to push some new people pretty quickly and John Morrison seems to be at the very front of the line. I agree when you say WWE has done an excellent job in turning CM Punk turn heel. He didn't get a rapid heel turn and he was pushed as a heel gradually which slowly turned the fans against him. CM Punk going against arguably the most popular superstar in WWE as gotten him over big time as a heel. John Morrison has been facing some main eventers such as Chris Jericho, Edge, and CM Punk. Rey Mysterio actually is the next logical opponent for CM Punk because Rey Mysterio is already a suitable challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship. There were some house shows and stuff promoting Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk. Rey will have to take the spot of top face on Smackdown until someone like Undertaker returns. John Morrison still isn't built up enough to challenge for a world championship yet. However Rey Mysterio seems to be feuding with Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison might challenge CM Punk for the world championship. I don't think anyone else can take the spot unless its heel vs heel. We will most likely see Undertaker enter the main event against CM Punk in the future though. Both John Morrison and Rey Mysterio will make great opponents for CM Punk because he's had some great matches with both superstars and they're the only available faces. Although i prefer Rey Mysterio to be the challenger because getting pushed too rapidly is never a good thing. John Morrison needs more time to get over with the fans so that fans will take him seriously and consider him a main eventer. Most fans consider John Morrison to be a upper mid carder right now. Both Rey and John Morrison are great wrestlers so we're bound to see great wrestling matches if either of them challenged CM Punk.

It's traditional in mexican style wrestling that you wear a mask and don't reveal your face. Even when he's walking through airports and stuff he wears the mask. WCW made him take it off years back, but it was only for a brief time.

He did take off the mask in WCW, but it didn't last very long. I know why he has it on now. It's because it is a family tradition and that mask has been handed down from generation to generation. I completely disagreed with WCW when they made him take it off. It is something held sacred to him and his family.

He has and if he ever wrestlers n Mexico he will not be able to wear his mask because tradition is once you wrestle without your mask you can not wear it again in the home of lucha libre. The reason he wears the mask is because he came to wrestling through ECW as a luchador, mask mexican wrestler, and then moved to WCW then WWE with the same gimmick, unfortunately he had to remove his mask as part of a storyline in WCW which is kind of messed up because of the tradition but WWE wanted him to put it back on.

He has taken off in WCW. And there is pictures of him with it off. The reason he doesn't take it off is beacause he is one of the biggest money makers for the WWE, so it wouldn't be a smart move to take the mask off of him. Or would it?
