Unlacquered brass should be dusted daily with a soft cloth. Spots on brass can be removed with hot vinegar and salt. You can add a little flour to make a paste, then let it sit for and hour and wash off. If you want a copper or brass object to stay bright once it has been polished, store it in a display case full of dry nitrogen instead of air; or lacquer it.

Combine 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, 1/2 c. table salt and 1/2 c. powdered laundry detergent. (Image 1)

2. Stir in 3/4 c. white vinegar, 1/3 c. lemon juice and 1/2 c. very warm water. (Image 2)

3. Dab a little bit of this mixture on the brass or copper surface with a clean, dry cloth and rub gently in a circular motion. (Image 3)

4. Rinse with cool water. Dry and buff to a shine with a soft cotton rag.
