She'll need to use a spray or soak. No, they won't go away until the tree has been stripped of leaves or their season is over. If she waits for that, then the tree is likely to die either this year or next from being stripped of leaves - the worms will leave even more eggs that will hatch next year and eat even more of the tree.

If she doesn't want to use chemicals, she can cut the branch off that they're on, put it in a black trash bag in the sun to kill the worms.

When I was a Kid, we used to pluck Bag Worms off and put them into a Coffee Can, then pour a bit of Gas on them an set them on fire! Yeah, my childhood was great!!

Go to your pest control and get you something to waste the tree down and the place around the tree.

Tie a rag around a long stick or pole -- maybe an old broom handle. Soak it in deisel or kerosene. Light it and burn the bags.

They won't just go away and they will damage your tree. You can buy a spray that will hook to a garden hose. this will kill them pretty quick. You will probably have to watch and spray again and your neighbors will too

i do this all the time take just a little tiny bit of gasoline drop it on them and they will turn into a green goo type stuff i poke a hole in the nest first then pour it in
