Walking does not start labor but once labor is started walking helps it move along. It also keeps your mind off the pain. I suggest you enjoy your freedom now because once that baby gets here you are going to be busy busy busy!
Happy Pushing!

When I was pregnant, I thought I tried everything to get labor started. I even jumped up and down; didn't work. First pregnancies, if this is your first, usually go past your due date. The physicians that I worked with last summer said if you are ready to go, sex works better than anything. That means the baby should be in the correct position, and you should also be starting to dilate. Until then there isn't anything else to do but wait. Sorry I can't be more help. I know it is so hard to wait, mostly because you are usually very uncomfortable. I wish you the best and a healthy, beautiful baby.

Activity helps get contractions going and progress you into the phases of labor. Since today is your due date, go buy some Arizona Green Tea, that also spurs contractions and Green Tea helps soften the placenta for an easier after birth. Eggplant is another good one. There is an italian restaurant here in Atlanta called Scalili's that is world famous for their Eggplant Parmesean putting women into labor with in 24 hrs. Some women say castor oil, its an old trick...but it tastes gross and makes you puke if you can gag it down, there are tastier ways.
The bottom line is activity. Walking and sex are great ones. When you orgasm your uterus contracts and supposedly semen helps to break down the cervix. There is no medical proof, but its been advised for many years.
Another technique that can go along with sex is nipple stimulation. Your husband or partner may love that. I know it may look funny walking around the house tweeking your nipples, but that is another one they say works.
Also there are trigger points in your body to initate labor. Ask someone to massage your feet and the webbing between your thumb and forefinger. Triggering those nerves helps too because they are supposedly connected to your uterus somehow.
Good luck to you! Ive got 3 1/2 weeks left and Im ready to get it over with.

Sure is.
When I had my first son my husband and I kicked a football around the garden, the same night I went into labour.
With my second son, we had an argument so I put my first son into the pushchair and walked really fast for about half a mile, the next morning I was in labour.
Good luck hope it happens soon and everything goes well. Give your baby a kiss from me with luck for life happiness. (it'll be born tomorrow)

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Walking is a great benefactor in labor and delivery. Walking helps to simply tone and condition your muscles. It is a safe and non stressful way to get your muscles in shape for the task they will have to bear. By walking you will prepare your muscles for the strenuous pushing and it helps you to tone back up afterward.. But in order to start labor, my doctor told me to have sex. He said that the contraction of an orgasm will actually help to stimulate your "baby is coming" reflex and help your body to release the amniotic fluid..aka your water to break. If your partner is now where around try masturbation. Good Luck.

Walking helped for me when I had my daughter, but while I was at the hospital, there was this poor woman who had already been there a day (walking around the whole time, non stop). She was there even after I left, 2 days later. So really, it depends on when you child decides to stop torturing you and come out to see the world. I hope this helps.

Take several short walks throughout the day. When I was in labor I walked the halls of the hospital to make my labor go faster.

i could not drink alcohol when i was pregnant or id end up being sick. The nights before both my children were born i was so determined to have a drink and keep it inside me hey presto next day labour pains. Someone told me if you make it too comfortable for your baby he/she will not want to come out! Just a suggestion and if you think its such a bad one i was told that they give pregnant women apple cider in Germany.
