Catalpa grows in California and in Northern Kansas. It gets up to 114 here in the summer and the catalpa did just fine.
Enjoy it.

Look for Monterrey Oaks, fast growth, disease resistant, long lived. Might also checkout Lacy Oaks. Red Buds do well, try to get Texas Hill Country red buds, better suited for Texas over the Eastern Red bud. Desert Willows, Crepe Myrtles, Catalpa Trees, Chitalpa Tree, Purple Orchid tree, Sweet Gum, Virginia Pines.

yes esp if you find the northern catalpa, it thrives in the heat as well as dry soil and would provide excellent shade for you there in texas, just keep in mind that it is a big tree so wherever you plant it be sure theres ample room to grow
