I have a Panasonic CD Stereo System SA-AK 18. I want to be able to play mp3 music in this system.

you would have to change the format & burn to a cd then play... I do not belive there is a way to upgrage the player unless you are a pro at electronics & at that point it would require additional boards that may not fit correctly into your current player. you see your cd system reads the disc differently & you would have to change every thing in programing that your cd player knows to read

Yeah, you have change the optical reader device in it, it's not that expensive.
