It really depends.
People say firefox is more secure, but I believe both are equally secure.
I.E 7.0 finally has the tabbing feature that firefox and mozilla has.
IE pros - They are not very anal with javascript errors and forms. I have found that there are many javascript and html codes that do not work under Mozilla so sometimes you get a "dead" page. IE is compatible with most extranet websites like online banking and secured websites.
IE cons - They take up A LOT of memory. They actually take up three times more memory than mozilla/firefox. They crash often and they sometimes slow down your processor which prevents you from opening other programs at the same time.
Firefox pros - They take up less memory and they are very easy to use. They are reliable and they have an easy config file that we can adjust to our needs right in the browser. They are the first to come up with the "tabbing" function and I think people fell in love with it before IE got it in their beta version.
Firefox cons - Some webpages will not work, some links will not work...all because mozilla and firefox is very anal with javascript. When theres a javascript error, there is no way of getting passed it. Most big companies do not test with Mozilla or Firefox so extranet websites become unreliable.

Internet Explorer because you can go to more websites than Firefox. The down side is that IE is prone to viruses. Microsoft released a new version called Internet Explorer Beta 2 Version 7. It has all new security features.

Firefox is 1 million times better, I made the switch and i'm never going back. My favorite thing about Firefox is Tabs. You can have a bunch of sites open and only have one thing in the task bar. It's really nice. I don't know of any cons, so far it blows IE out of the water so I'm not complaining.

Firefox
a). it's mor esecure (it veryfies the scripts when loading a page, while IE only blocks them...)
b). it's configurable (if you need something, just add an extension and if you don't need it anymore simply remove it)
c). it consumes a lot of memory (especially after adding aditional themes and plugins)
Internet Explorer
a). it doesn't analyse scripts, just blocks them...
b). there hasn't been any change to it since it was first released
c). each time a security issue is released, microsoft releases an update for the system (that's kind of annoying..)
d). it's not configurable....
What I prefer? Well I work with all of them, and not only! I like firefox, then opera and on the last place ie (this doesn't mean theer aren't any other browsers available...).

Firefox, in my view is the best web browser. Not only is highly customizable to your requirements, it is far more secure and bug-free than IE. Also since it is not tied to Windows operating system, you are much safe when browsing the net that you would if you were using Internet Explorer.
