the people knew that to stay on board was certain death

to jump off, get away from the ship and hang on to the sides of the lifeboats was a possible chance for survival,
but the water was far to cold they all died anyway,and very quickly

Perhaps because the boat was sinking? You can stay on a boat that floats, but the Titantic didn't. And there weren't enough life boats. They had a choice of jumping into the water and hoping they could hang on to something or get to one of the boats, or they could stay with the boat as it went down and drown.

They couldn't go on with the horror they were going through. The whole time, they were scared and they didn't want to feel like that anymore. They were like "Let me just get this over with." They KNEW they were gonna die, so they didnt wanna feel the pressure they were feeling, so they just jumped... kinda like what happened sept 11 and everyone started jumping from the buildings... they KNEW death was coming but didn't want to wait for it in horror.

why were ppl jumping off the WTC on sept 11? they had a lot less chances of survival jumping than the ppl on Titanic had.. panic is probably a key factor that influences ppl's reaction to certain stimuli

Obviously because those people may have thought they would have a better chance jumping. And what " did happen " was the ship sank!

it was going down anyway so you might as well jump off. i could of stayed afloat but it didnt. god bless them.
