Hi! I am from Canada, but lived in Mauritius for a while. I like Mauritius a lot, mostly for its people. The beaches, and the good food are nice as well. I have been to most parts of the island, but not sure where I like it best. I like to shop in Mauritius, mostly for silks, and tea. Also, love the milles feuilles pastries in the bakeries and the gateaux piments. Goyaves are pretty good too. The only things that I did not like in Mauritius were the stray dogs which are way too many, and need to be taken care of. Also, Mauritius is a very beautiful island, but needs a good program of recycling and garbage cleanup. Some areas are neglected and it is really a pity. I love your country though, and often talk of perhaps moving back some day.

It is true.... some maps don't even have Mauritius ("Maurice" in French) noted. But with 1.3 million people who live in Mauritius, a beautiful country, it is important to know where it is.
The best way to explain where Mauritius is by experience is to say "From South Africa, the next big island to the east in the Indian Ocean is Madagascar, then a small island, Reunion which is a department of France and then Mauritius. Mauritius is also about a nine hour flight to the west from Perth Australia."

I haven't been there, but I've wanted to go to there and the Seychelles. I think the water is clear there so snorkeling and diving should be good. I view it as a peaceful and exotic place with lovely people.
