Not necessarily in order:

Jesus. Whether you believe he is Christ is irrelevant. At the very least, He is an important historical figure.

Plato. The father of philosophy.

Aristotle. The first to dispute Plato.

Michelangelo. Who among us cannot appreciate his art?

Milton. A pivotal figure in religion, philosophy, literature, and politics.

Captain John Cooke. The brave explorer.

Mother Teresa. The peacemaker and diplomat.

Princess Diana. The inspiration and diplomat.

Bill Clinton. Proved that even an orphan from Arkansas can do great things, like balance a budget that seems unbalancable. The American explorer peacemaker, diplomat, and inspiration.

Hitler. We cannot forget that there is evil in this world.

Stephen King. Reminds us that there is a little evil in all of us. Scares us into oppressing evil.

I believe that every man, women and child are the most important people in history as people like Lenin, Marx, Hitler, Ceaser and Hippocrates may come up with the ideas but they put them into action. For instance:

No wars would happen:
The Nazis would not have SS troops
The Romans would not have had an army.

No workers:
The Eygptians would have had no slaves.
The Victorians would have no one in their factory.

We are all just as important in history as every one else- only some are remembered more than others

This may be considered the dumbist answer, but I'll say Mother Theresa will have to be one, simply for shifting the domain in peoples minds by being a worldwide figure, risin from her own right, in a domain not commonly associated with worldwide figures.

You can refer to Time Magazines most influential peoples list by consulting your libraries archives or depending on what you feel is "importent", read books on the subject while you're there. I think 'important' would mean someone who contributed to the good of mankind thru peace, sacrifice, invention, discovery, philanthropy.
