The tape probably wouldn't last long. Easiest way is to dig it up, saw out the damaged section with a hacksaw, and use sprinkler pipe couplers, hose clamps and a small section of new pipe to put it back together.

IGNORE THE OTHER ANSWERS. EASIEST WAY IS USE 1 INCH OF THIN WALL 1 1/2 PIPE. CUT 1/3 OFF(LENGHT WISE) APPLY GLUE TO EFFECTED PIPE AND THE PATCH PIPE . SNAP IT OVER THE PIPE. TWIST A LITTLE AND LET DRY. DONE THIS MANY TIMES. WORKS LIKE A CHARM. TRUST ME.

all you need is a pipe coupling and some glue and a saw
saw though the pipe at the leak
put glue on pipe and add coupling
pipe should be dry

break the tip of a toothpick off in the hole first then use the tape, cheaper than replacing the pipe.
