Depending on what food is canned in, generally tin are used for fat and semi liquid foods, while aluminum is used for soft drinks usually,now a days PET ( clear plastic) is used for vegetable oils , juices and many other foods,in addition to tin and aluminum cans.

You can't even get tin cans anymore, It's steel with a tin/zinc coating

neither... best to use cans that are coated on the inside with a type of plastic that keeps the food from reacting with the metal.... especially acid based foos like tomatoes.

best is silver foil,as it is less reactive
other wise alluminium is a good option.
