it all varies. obviously gthe bigger your name the more money could be coming your way. sponsers and team owners help pay for the car.
there is a certain pot for each race. depends on the races income. obviously daytona makes more money than say pocono, and therefore the purse for that race is more, and even if you are last you could still end up with some pretty decent change.
the driver perfoms on sunday, and depending on the laps he might have led, and his finishing position is what he walks home with. now that money goes partially to the driver, but some of that moeny goes back into the team.
if you go to nascar.com and go to the driver's page it will list the winnings for each race for the driver. or if you pull up the results from the race it will list the finishing orders and then all the way over to the right it will list the winnings.
the driver's also make money from the sponsers for ad's and stuff like that.. they don't get out and say "this budweiser/dupont/lowes/home depot car" for no reason..

They all get money. Even finishing in last, they get good money. Take a look at the link and see how much money the last place car got for finishing at the back of the Daytona 500. The driver doesn't get all the money, but they get a percentage. I don't know what the driver's percentages are, but it's different based on the driver's skill. In the Playstation 2 Nascar game an up and coming driver would get 4-6%, so I am sure someone like Tony Stewart gets at least 10%, but probably more than that.

The last place driver still makes money to be divided up within his team. They also get paid by their sponsors. Each driver's contract is different so his percentage that he gets to keep is different. Also, there are performance bonuses that are paid out.

What ever you place depends on where you place. After like the 20th place you get paid about the same amount.

Marcus most certainly has to pay American federal income taxes, regardless of his immigration status. In addition, depending upon what race he is in for a given week, he may also have to pay state income taxes. I am guessing he has a work visa, and he is treated like any other taxpayer. I have no idea as to what his responsibilities are for Aussie taxes.
