I don't blame you for wanting to find other options than antidepressants.

The Mayo Clinic has research that shows exercise helps to alleviate depression. Your health problems are likely to limit you on this, but the good news is that even light exercise shows benifits. Stretching, yoga, walks, etc.

People also tend to dim the lights when depressed. This is part of the depressive cycle. You want to keep the room well lit & cheery. The first thing I do when I'm feeling depressed is to turn on all the lights in the room.

I also found I am sensitive to music. I keep up-tempo music playing when I'm depressed, & change the station when a slow, mellow song comes on.

But don't rule out antidepressants if none of the natural methods don't work.

Good luck.

Hi,
Don't let him saddle you with yet another prescription. Here's what I was taught to do. It worked very well. Once a day, EVERY day, do something nice for someone else. It doesn't have to be big, grand things. Simple things like holding the door for someone, or saying something encouraging to someone who needs it. There are tons of things like this to do and the opprotunities will present themselves abound each day. Trust me it works!!! Make a habit of this and you'll be feeling a lot better soon.
