Can anyone get the right answer to this riddle?

A man and a woman were driving in their car when it broke down. The man decided to go for help at a gas station a few miles back. He made sure nobody was in the car, rolled all the windows up, and locked all of the sedan's doors. He went off, but when he came back, his wife was dead, and there was a stranger in the car. No physical damage was done to the car, so how did the stranger get in?

Technically, the mom didn't have to be murdered, cause it just said she was dead, not shot or strangled or etc. The couple could have been on the way to a hospital, if the mom was pregnant and had a baby. If the mom died the baby would be a stranger to the dad, right?

I'd guess the stranger came up and killed the wife while she waited outside the car, took the keys from her, and got in. I don't know why the stranger didn't drive away.
