Aside from it being taken as an insult it is not as if the border is in dispute and neither side knows which land belongs to whom.

There is already an imaginary line there, why not a wall? I am having a hard time seeing the difference between putting up a wall at the border and putting up a fence between my neighbor's property and mine.

I really am curious because I must be missing a reason. I am not talking about the cost or whether we should build one or not, just the reason for Mexicans to oppose. Or why the Mexican govt would oppose.

(and any Canadians, feel free to say why you would oppose a wall to the north too.)
Thanks

Seriously, Mexicans' opposition, not what we all think might be it (and the berlin thing is so off it isn't even worth explaining).
So far only one and he is not opposed.
Obviously I am in favor but am trying to see the other side to the issue.

I don't have a problem with it, and I'm Mexican. An American Mexican but still, Mexican.

And yes, I worded it correctly, "American-Mexican". I'm American first.

They want to continue to come across. Mexican remittances 'back home' from the United States is their number one foreign source of income, even above sales of oil, per Fox. They don't want it to stop. Over time, since Big Business is the only one who keeps a constant eye on the government, troops and personnel to the border would be cut. A physical barrier would remain an inconvenience, permanently. That is why the day Fox visited so many last minute amendments went into the Senate Bill. One says we have to consult with Mexico before building any kind of a barrier (a very open ended requirement on timing). Another says we have to do a huge study seeing if there would be any detriment whatsoever at all in building a barrier, including to our diplomatic relations with Mexico.

Another provision has a 10 year statute of limitations on border crossing, as if the damage were done when the border crossing occurred, which would be a rolling amnesty going forward for people who sneak in and hide, or forge documents saying they did, for a 10 year period.

Mexico doesn't want a wall, and the Senate doesn't seem to want one either.

Let's say you live in a poor country right next to what looks to you like a rich country. If you need a job, or could get free health care, or get your child to be a citizen even when you screwed that country for hospital bill, never pay taxes like the real citizens, and they were putting up a wall to keep you out now, would'nt you oppose the wall being built?

They are taking offense to the fact that they will be cut off from the United States. As Canada(I don't think) is not going to have a wall there. I myself see no reason for a wall, as there are many underground passages and serves no purpose. Only more money being spent on useless things.

We would be denying their right to possibly have a better life - instead of putting up a wall or putting troops there, we could make it easier for them to get into the country and then they'd want to do it legally. They could be citizens like you and me.

The truth is our government makes it too hard for people to come here, despite the fact that the USA was born from immigrants. How hypocritical is that?

The mexicans don't want the wall because it will make it more difficult for thier people to cross over. That's why. That insult bit is just a crock!

There's already too many illegals coming into our country, and so a wall would make things more difficult for them doing so.

They want their criminals and other undesirable people to get out of their justice system and go north. Like when Castro emptied his jails and sent them all to Florida.
