The Japanese Army doctors removed arms, legs, and intestines, without giving the Chinese anything for pain. This must have been Japanese culture.

The Japanese leave a bad taste in the mouths of most Koreans. The Jap soldiers often would go to the schools and drag out beautiful female students and rape them over and over. My grandmother said my aunt was raped while the Japanese men laughed.
If the village chief did not invite Jap officers to functions, he or somebody in his family would be murdered. At the functions, the Jap soldiers would take most of the food and the most beautiful girls to rape. Many times they rounded up the beautiful girls and take them to whatever campaign that needed comfort women. There were Koreans, Chinese, and even a few European type women taken in this manner.
To date, there has never been any retribution, only empty promises. Asian men did not marry the former comfort women; they had been violated.

No, it's not the Japanese culture. It was racism (the Japanese hated the Chinese) and a few really sick individuals given absolute power to do anything they wanted - just like Dr. Mengele in Germany. This is what happens when one group of people decides that they are morally and physically superior to another. They use this "superiority" to justify actions like the Crusades and the Inquisition, Jihad and slavery and genocide and every other form of barbarism that has been perpetrated on this planet since the dawn of time - much of which is still going on today in Africa and the Middle East.

Read up on unit 731 - the Japanese that conducted many horrible experiments in chemical and biological warfare on captured p.o.w.s and innocent civilians. They then vivisected the bodies (an autopsy while the person is still alive) to see how the diseases were progressing. Then after the war, the U.S. didn't prosecute these people - they let many of them go free in exchange for access to all of the information they had collected.

The Japanese felt the Chinese were an inferior race, therefore they were not to be treated as humans, but as animals, and were not worth the trouble or cost of compassion. The Germans thought of the Jews in the same manner.

For pretty much the same reason that Nazis did it to Jews.

A) They could.

B) They didn't view their victims as humans.

C) They were able to convince themselves that it was for the good of science. This is called "hypocritic"......as opposed to "hippocratic".
