Bobby Darin sang this song.
The lyrics were written by Bobby Darom and Murray Kaufman, and Kaufman's mother Jean penned the music.
"The idea for the song arose following a softball game in Central Park: Bobby and Murray had finished the game, returned to Murray's apartment, and were soaking their feet in a basin of Epsom salts when Jean called, as she did nearly every day, to talk to her only child.
Murray told her what Darin and he were doing, finished the conversation, and got a call back a few minutes later with the title and a melody line. Bobby and Murray took it from there and had Jean finish the tune.
If you check the label, remembering that this was the payola era when conflicts of interest were under scrutiny, Jean Kaufman and Murray Kaufman are credited under the nom de plume Jean Murray.
In their continuing quest to encourage kids to take baths, Sesame Street has used this on a few of their albums. It is a very popular song for kids, especially when performed by Elmo. "
