I have an African Land snail!!! He's called Sandy, and he's seven years old now. Lazy git, he's just woken up from a six month hibernation. We got four from someone who happened to have them. You can probably get them from a petshop.
They're very easy to look after but they grow very fast indeed. We gave three away because it was unfair to keep them in such little space, but now I kinda regret not keeping two. I'd advise you to have a pair as I worry Sandy is lonely!
They're very easy to care for. WE keep Sandy in a large fish tank (no water of course) with a cardboard box for him to hide in when it's too hot or cold, a large container of water fro him to drink and bathe in, and a large piece of cuttlefish for him to devour in order to keep his shell strong. He also has large rocks which he seems to like sitting on. He eats lettuce and Cucumber. Be warned, you should never ever give the, tomatoes or any red fruits as it is dangerous to them.
They are very low maintenance, needing cleaning only as regularly as they poop and their food rots. they enjoy being washed under a tap or in shallow water in a sink, and are very passive.
Lol I'm so happy someone else likes them! Most people find my poor lil slimeball repulsive!
They were smaller than peas when we got them and Bug as I affectionately call him, is now bigger than both of my fists together.
But yes, waffle aside, look around for someone local who has snail babies and obviously cannot rear them all, as they will give them to you for free. Put a request in the local paper or something. Or check out a pet store. Even if they do not stock them they may know someone who owns them.
Good luck! They're great pets.
P.S OMG at ebay!!! How the hell are they going to post that baby to you???? They're so tiny and fragile! You have to be so careful handling them when they're small. And mine's about 15cm long I think, and 7yrs old, so the expectations there seem wrong...

They're gorgeous creatures. Oddly enough, try Ebay. Also just research your local pet store, they should have details of where you can get one even if they don't have one themselves. Gian African Land snails are surprisingly easy to come by in the UK...
This sweet little creature is going for a pound...

Make sure you can care for it properly though, they need the right humidity and temperature and will need the right foods to keep them strong.

Find out if you can first get an Giant African Snail first- Many places it is illegal, because if they get out, they can cause all sorts of damage.
I would try a large petstore, and maybe also do an internet search.

You can buy gals in the UK in pet shops. I would check if you are in another country if you are allowed.
The are so easy to keep. They love cucumber and lettuce hearts. it is fun to listen to them crunching on apple.
Here is a website.
