In you opinion, who was better...Mickey Mantal or Rodger Maris? Why?

Mickey Mantle by far. .298 career batting average compared to .260. Career OPS of .978 compared to .821. 536 career home runs to Maris' 275. 3 MVPs for Mantle, plus a triple crown compare to 2 MVPs for Maris. Maris had a few great years, but the rest of his career he was less than mediocre. Mantle had many great years. Mantle is considered one of the best players ever. Maris just happened to break one of the most hallowed records in sports, er, well, what used to be. Otherwise, no one would remember him. Ever heard of Jim Gentile? He had some great seasons in that era too, but nobody remembers him, except maybe Orioles fans. I really don't think there's any way one can really compare Mantle to Maris, except they both played for the Yankees and they both had a great year in the same season.

definitely mantle - look at his career numbers. Maris, although the 1961 one season was an incredible one, only had a couple of other noteworthy seasons.
mantle was a mess, personally, though, while maris was a pretty stand-up guy...

Roger Maris. He suffered from lot of media pressure, and still managed to play a great game. He was also faithful to his wife, and stayed away from things like alcohol.

Roger. Mickey was plagued with injuries his entire career and never reached the potential he had.
Roger was a workhorse, there day in and day out.

mantle by a ton, mick was a 5 tool player. not even close. look at the stats.
