call Comcast and explain. They can do a 'line test' to check you signal. If the signal is ok, the problem is in your computer. Do this first as there are many things that can slow your computer. One step at a time!

Your computer running slow is usually caused by one of or both of these reasons.

1. Malware Infection (Virus,Trojan,Spyware,Adware).

2. Computer needing to be cleaned of garbage.

Clean your computer first. START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>DISK CLEAN UP. After it finishes click OK for it to remove everything that has a Check in the box.

Next follow the same path and select Disk Defragment. Select a disk and select Defragment. If the disk cannot or doesn't need to be defraged it will tell you. Continue this through each disk it lists (for most it is the C & D disks).

Now do your scans with your AV/AS programs. Make sure they are updated with the latest definitions. If an Infection is found the program will list the name of it. Put the name (exactly) in Yahoo or Google search and many sites will be brought up that explains the infections. Do not purchase any programs to remove the infection. If no infections are found then skip the removal steps below. Still read it for the links to Java for the latest update and Novatix to download Cyberhawk.

Go to this windows site and an article by an MVP will walk you through the proper removal process. This article is for Spyware/Adware removal, but the same procedure is used for Anti-Virus programs. Just use your AV instead of the AS programs she lists.

If, after doing this and the Infection is still there then go to this site and run the online scan and remove anything it finds and lists. Prior to running this program go here and download the latest update 7 of Java;

Now go to this site and download Cyberhawk. It will work with your current AV and AS programs to provide additional protection against infection. Do Not use this as your only AV/AS protection. No setup required. Just download and let it run.

Now you want to stop programs that are running from startup. Most of these do not need to run unless you are activily using them. They run in the background and use system resources and slow your computer. I only have 4 needed Windows OS functions and my AV/AS programs running from startup. Everything else only runs when I call for it.
START>RUN>type MSCONFIG>SELECT THE RADIO BUTTON FOR SELECTIVE STARTUP>UNCHECK LOAD STARTUP ITEMS>SELECT STARTUP TAB>UNCHECK PROGRAMS THAT DO NOT NEED TO RUN>CLICK APPLY>CLOSE THEN RESTART COMPUTER.

If you have less than 512MB of Ram, I suggest you you use Free Ram XP Pro to keep your Ram freed up.

These things should speed up your computer.
