I am "Mr. Calm, Cool and Collected" when unexpected events happen. I usually collapse in a hopeless mess after the event is dealt with and I realize what actually occured.

In emergency situations, I land on my feet. More accurately, for whatever reason, my adrenaline measures out such that time seems to slow down for me in unexpected situations. With things moving in slow motion, I tend to react quickly and effectively. This is not to say that I can survive being dropped off a 5 story building, but that if survival is possible that my odds are increased by my reaction time.
On the other hand, put me in a secure situation where risks are low and I won't know what to do with myself. I get terribly disorganized. Without an organized person to back me up, my creativity and talent tend to be awash of my wandering curiosities and attention.
On the Meyers-Briggs Personality Type indicator, I am very strongly the "Perceiving" type.

I kinda do all of the above. When it happens, I stay calm, so I can think it through. If it gets worse, THEN I become a hopeless mess; usually through some sort of rage.

I am usually calm. I was calm when my ex pulled a gun on me for trying to leave. I was calm when a tornado went over my house and I watch the debris fly all over my backyard from the second story window. I was calm when an 18 wheel truck almost pushed me off an overpass. For some reason I only panic when it comes to meeting new people.

It's what I get paid to do. Most of the time I don't have the luxury to think it through, I have to react to a situation while it's happening and prevent it from becoming a hopeless mess.

Yes, the key is just in the confidence that you will always answer the question in the best way you can. It may not always be right but you will mean exactly what you meant to say.
Confidence!

I totally lose it if I am not responsible for other people. However, I am a girl scout counselor and a babysitter. If i am responsible for other people, then I usually go into a take charge mode and don't let myself freak out.

I agree with Tom H, the 'big' thing can be dealt with in a reasonable, calculated manner. It is the 'small,' daily, insignificant things that annoy me and show through in my responses to them.
