how does a major record label work?

wat is needed? how do u get cd out around the world? how do u get publicity? how do u get song on the radio around the world? anything else i need 2 no?

You need money. Most major record labels started small looking for talent to sign. Hopefully they find someone who has the potential to be a commercial success. They record. Then they submit the singles to the radio. Meanwhile the band is doing as many gigs as possible to get exposure to the public. the single gets requested, other radio stations pick it up. The general public hears the song on the radio, hopefully likes it and rushes out to buy it in the record store. Rinse, repeat.

They use independent agents to discover and sign artists, farm out tourers and recording to production companies, use yet another third party for printing and pressing Cd's, and collect revenue. The only work actually done BY the label itself is marketing, which is the only thing that is extremal hard to do as an independent artist.

Smaller labels sign with larger ones for marketing and pressing Cd's, but take care of the other functions themselves.
